What this domain holds.
Patience is the tool this domain runs on, and it cannot be bought at any price point. Soil improves on a calendar of years. A flock is a daily obligation with no pause button. Living systems fail the way they grow — slowly, then suddenly — and the skill of this domain is mostly the skill of seeing the slow part while there is still time to act on it.
The popular version of self-reliance is an aesthetic: the photogenic garden, the gear. The real version is closer to bookkeeping — water in, feed out, frost dates, the state of a fence line — attention paid in small daily amounts to systems that will not be hurried and will not be fooled. That is what this study holds: food, water, weather, animals, and the ecology that connects them, treated as systems you can actually read.
